Thoughts from the road....
Those white dashed lines between the lanes on the Turnpike - who knew they were twice as long as the lane is wide? And those lanes - not wide enough to contain your errant driving after yelling "Those jerks!" when The Doors are on the radio, and laughing at your insanely quick ability to recall obscure funny moments from the eighties.
Bayway refinery looking awesome on the crystal clear nights driving home from Newark. It's lit up like Times Square, but instead of smelling like piss, it smells like...well, that Turnpike refinery smell.

"Those jerks" and "O.T." stand as two high points of the late 1980s.
Ever since I had a car where I wasn't afraid to use the air conditioned for long periods of time, I haven't really smelled the refineries.
Yes, of course , the air conditioner when it's 40 degrees out - may I please borrow your extra afghan?
I'm with Al. It's impossible to listen to the radio or CDs with the windows open. I had the AC on this afternoon so I could hear my book on tape.
That said, the afghan line is making me laugh out loud.
Um, I generally don't open the car windows when I'm driving on the turnpike and it's 40 out.
Of course you don't open the windows - you have the air on, and that would be wasteful. In any case, the refinery smell is evident irrespective of window position or AC being on or not.
I'm not sure where all the anger is coming from Ed. I was merely commenting on the fact that I personally haven't smelled it recently. Perhaps this new commute of yours really is bothering you.

I think that baseball player's name is a thinly veiled insult.
