Why bang it out and paint it?
Because it is not garbage; it is salvageable. Because it makes economic sense. Because you want to meet the challenge. Because Dad had more hammers and paint than money.

Because solving large and small problems can be simple and pragmatic, while sometimes skimping on the aesthetics.

I am reading this now while giving an exam ... and am trying not to start screaming laughing.
The alternative was "put it between two pieces of bread and call it a sandwich", but that truly belongs to someone else. I need to post more here, been busy with classes....
